Vita Rara: A Life Uncommon

Frustrating Days in Quadran Land

Categories: | | | | | |

The past week or so has been one of frustration. It seems like I have been working on working. I've been setting up Spring, and WebWork, creating the skeleton of WebWork action classes. All in all a lot of busy work.

In the course of creating the JPA implementation of our data layer I used the JpaDaoSupport from the Spring framework. This caused some boot strapping issues when I went to get all of this running under JBoss 4.0.4.GA. The persistence archive deployed perfectly, but it was bear from that point out getting the DAO's to work. I think I have it figured out, and will post a HOWTO once I have it all working.

In general I'm having wiring issues with Spring, but this is my first experience with it. I chalk it up to the learning curve.

I upgraded from Eclipse 3.1 to 3.2 and that caused issues. The particular problem was that the Ant View broke. It would open my build.xml file, but would not run any of the tasks. I could right click the build.xml file in navigator and use it via "Run As," but frankly that is too much work. I ended up blowing away my workspace and reimporting the project from scratch. I fought with it for several hours yesterday though, which was lost time.

Oh, and if you hadn't guessed I've decided to start Quadran with WebWork 2.2.2 with the intention to moving to Struts 2 at some point during the development cycle.
