Vita Rara: A Life Uncommon

About Vita Rara

Vita what?!? Vita Rara??? What is that you're asking.

Well, the story goes a little like this. Quite some time ago I heard this song by Jewel, an anthem, calling out to a generation. It posited a simple theorem:

Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom.
No longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from.
Fill your lives with love and bravery and you shall lead... a life uncommon.

The message of this song resonated with me. Such a simple and diginified call, one that made me think very hard about my life and what I was doing.

I've Finally Arrived

Since the advent of blogging it has passed me by. Well, that time is over. After just finishing a site in Drupal for a client, and being dully impressed with it, I decided it was time to set it up for myself.

The feature set of Drupal is fantastic, it includes blogs, menuing, navigation aids, content management, and a whole lot more. Check it out for yourself.

So, now I have a blog. Keep an eye here to see what I'm up to. Photography will be a frequent subject, as well as highlighting new galleries.

Take care,

About Me

My name is Mark Menard. I reside in Troy, NY. Some of my interests include Freemasonry, motorcycles, software development, and digital photography.

Personal Life

I am an almost life long resident of Troy, NY. I took a brief break from living in Troy to pursue a competitive ice skating career in my late teens. I returned after running out of money trying to do that. Ice skating is very expensive.

About two years ago I asked a friend of mine, Sylva, if she would like to go on a motorcycle ride. As they say the rest is history. We have been together since that first date. We made it through two years of Sylva finishing school at UCONN, while I continued to live and work in Troy. Upon her graduation from UCONN I asked Sylva if she would marry me. I knew she was going to say yes, but it needed to be formalized. Sylva has since moved to Troy with me, and we are in the process of creating a nice home.
