Well...I had a couple days off and then worked 8 hrs yesterday with my yuck sore throat...waking up this morning was really no fun. My voice sounds REALLY funny.
It's strange, I forgot how miserable it is to be sick it's been so long since I've even had a cold. But here I am. I've been using my neti pot and my head and throat feel better, but...ooh boy, it's moved down to me chest.
I called in today, and spent the majority of the day on the couch continuing my ginger tea, water water water, some Boston Legal, some reading of The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, as well as nursing journal articles...and an afternoon nap. Only one more 8 hr shift before my weekend off and trips with Mark to my mom's and dad's for christmas celebrations.
Today I also explored Alton Brown's website. He's on the Food Network (where I first discovered him touting the wonders of cheese and how it's made). He is, however, the owner of a BWM 2005 R1200RT motorcycle and traveled this past summer, letting us in on "Feasting on Asphalt" as he toured by bike and ate at local good (and not so good) eats. He is so goofy and makes the science behind food easy to understand, and completely funny.
I highly recommend you take the opportunity to watch him on his show Good Eats on the Food Network. Drool. Good good good eats. He was on NPR just the other week on Weekend Edition talking about Eggnog and Ice cream, and I happened to catch it while I was on the road.
I did discover that while Alton Brown is missing out on video and podcasting, Jamie Oliver, aka the Naked Chef from the UK, is not. I am downloading his podcast from iTunes at this very minute. I'm somewhat turned off by his website - while previously all of this Brit-isms seemed like him, now they just seem cliche.
Now I just need to get better so I can enjoy cooking again. I find it's so hard to eat when you're sick. Can't taste anything...but hungry...in a very vague way, because nothing seems appetizing. Meh.
Speaking of food, my friend and fellow Albany-area dancer, HoneyHoneyNY (who I happen to have mentioned previously re: great company for clothes shopping!), now has her very own food blog which I also recommend you check out especially if you enjoy spicy foods.
Ah...time for the Sylva to get to bed. Mark is out with The Moose Man as they do their final christmas shopping. I'm glad all my christmas shopping is done, though I hope I remember to stop by the Farmer's Market on our way out of town Saturday morning!!
