So I couldn't make it to Itzhak Perlman May 31st (Pops' had his surgery that day)...but this week I found a friend with extra tickets to Bela Fleck and Chick Corea for this past Thursday, June 14th. I had such a fun time! Last time I saw Bela Fleck, probably in 2001 or 2002, was with The Flecktones, his band, at UCONN. I think I had those $2 student group tickets that they used to give to RAs. Yeah. :sigh: What I'd give to be back for that...that year I saw Bela Fleck, Ibrahim Ferrer (and Bueno Vista Social Club), Dave Brubeck, and even a tribute to John Coltrane and Miles Davis by Herbie Hancock...which most likely covered the music on Directions in Music: Live at Massey Hall, a CD which came out in 2001.
gosh, the list goes on and on...I must say, none of the concert series at the Jorgensen Theater really struck me after that one season!
Anyway, back to Bela Fleck - and Chick Corea! Check out their duet of "Sunset Road" on iTunes. YUM. That was their encore on Thursday! It makes me melt. I wasn't sure what I'd make of the two together as I'd not heard Chick Corea previously, but once there I settled in and had a great time.
Even after arriving late due to exhaust issues with my car (note to self: The employees of Schenectady's Broadway Parking Garage rock! Especially since they've got TMR Security, and Moose works for them...and everyone's heard of Moose!)...I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
I also drooled over the restorations at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, NY. It was beautiful, and I'd never been to a show there.
I loved my night out, took it easy and slow on the drive home, and got my car in and fixed bright and early Friday morning! (sorry - my car was having a personality problem with the Harley straight-pipes!). I look forward to my next concert there.
