Recent Work Projects

I have settled into work rather well lately. There are always new things for me, but I've developed a simpler rhythm over the last month or more. At the same time, there have been some very new things for me, like becoming a member of a unit committee and taking on the entering of pediatricians' phone/address info into Excel.

The Committee
As a new 2006 employee of AMC, I was not required to be part of a committee, but since the new year I have begun the orientation to "QuadraMed" - our patient classification system. As a committee member, I'm in the process of becoming a SuperUser, someone who learns the system more than the average staff member. In addition, the QuadraMed program is changing - in the next month - from a ScanTron process to an online software program. The amount of work with this committee is staggering.

Blogging by Weather Patterns: Soggy Wet Snow

What a busy week I've had.

Mark showed up late last night as I briefly awoke. Rachel's been here all week, and I've been back and forth working every other day. When I'm not at work (and dropping food on the floor - today was yogurt, a piece of Luna Bar, some cottage cheese, and just now some of my dinner) we've been working really hard at being crafty. I, too, was also spending much time praying to the God of Printers as I babysat said printer.

Woooo it's Winter!!!

uh....the weather.... wow!!! totally classic nurse.

the saga: drove into work at 6:30am on v-day, wednesday, slipping and sliding like a mofo. i was only supposed to work 8 hours. they asked me to work 4 more hours for double pay(!) since people weren't making it in. of course i said SURE...and they let me take 4 hours off thursday (today, the 15th).

4:30pm wednesday i slog through the snow to clean off my car in the parking lot - people are NUTS on the roads, nothing is cleaned off. there's a guy in the parking lot with a shovel, and they are *just* starting to plow the lot. the guy with the plow literally plows me out, and the other guy shovels me the rest of the way out. huzzah!

Babies R Fun

Today my friend from work, M, and her baby, J came to visit! We learned just how much "stuff" on the coffee table is too much too interesting (he's 7-8 months old and pulling himself up to the table and reaching for things, among other activities).

We hung out and laughed with J for much of the afternoon, and Mark came up with his camera for me to take some VERY cute photos. It was just in time, because when J woke up from his nap, the sun was shining in our western-facing windows and it was very cute.

Hmn...It's February!

...Already!

I've been going to yoga once a week, which helps me feel so much better at work! Plus the wedding stuff just keeps coming!

I have seen snow! (um...I cheated. I headed north to visit my friends Juli and Zach Jakub in Lake Placid, NY) It was freezing cold and they have much more snow there than we have here in the Capital Region. I spent time with Juli and Zach, and their Eight Animals - Siobhan and Monk their dogs, their two ferrets, and, let's see if I can recall their 4 horses' names...nope, only two: Be and Thunder.

Had a great time but I need to go make some lasagna for tomorrow, I work a 12. Can't believe the wedding will be here so soon.

S

Edit: I nearly forgot to mention the very cool film festival I was just in time for up in Lake Placid: the Banff Mountain Festival, and Zach's amazing chicken/veggie curry - YUM.

Current (nearly done) - Blink

Happy New Year!

It's January, I'm not sick anymore, and I just had a three-day weekend and spent all day Saturday lindyhopping!! I took a workshop on lindy-blues and one on aerials with my friends Adam and Camille! Wowwee!

And Mark and I went dancing Saturday night and there were many people out and many wonderful dances to be had to the live band (Solomon Douglas Quartet). I enjoyed myself tremendously.

Off topic, the weather's been oddly warm - 70+ degrees out - and our heat never came on, so Saturday night we spent freezing. Then the heat got turned up Sunday night because no one else's heat came on either, and we sweated all night at 70+ degrees.

Tim's been over hanging out several times in the last week and a half...doing research for his paper and helping make delicious food. I'm going to miss him when he's gone this summer!

Tomorrow I go back to work so it's time for bed. Ciao bella.

Colds are no fun!

Well...I had a couple days off and then worked 8 hrs yesterday with my yuck sore throat...waking up this morning was really no fun. My voice sounds REALLY funny.

It's strange, I forgot how miserable it is to be sick it's been so long since I've even had a cold. But here I am. I've been using my neti pot and my head and throat feel better, but...ooh boy, it's moved down to me chest.

I called in today, and spent the majority of the day on the couch continuing my ginger tea, water water water, some Boston Legal, some reading of The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, as well as nursing journal articles...and an afternoon nap. Only one more 8 hr shift before my weekend off and trips with Mark to my mom's and dad's for christmas celebrations.

First off, Happy Birthday Sweetie!!

In the last two weeks, I have been busy with work (full assignment, then basically working on my own...and I survived!). I've been exploring using my crock pot (the weather for it is here!), reading Reading Lolita In Tehran, and working my way to an earlier sleeping schedule. Yesterday and today I woke up with the sun shining on my face. My atomic clock is a great invention that I especially appreciate when DST begins and ends! Yesterday, armed with a lindyhopping friend "HoneyHoney" and Mark, we went to the mall to track down an outfit for a black-tie affair Mark and I will be attending in 2 weeks. Found it at Ann Taylor, along with some really cute and surprisingly comfortable heels. I hope to make those even more comfortable with Insolia inserts.

Bored

I've been working for three full months. Full-time employment for the first time in my life. And I've been finding myself doing things I used to do prior to college...doing less than I'd like to be doing.

Time to motivate my nearly-quarter-century tush into some new interesting things!! I'd love to start tango-ing. I would like to get into some kickball (wouldn't that be fun?!).

I've been reading a lot, very little fiction. Learning a great deal, but I need some different interaction. Wow...Five months out of school and three months of work, and I'm ready for some more stimulation!!! That's record-breaking time perhaps.
